Where has the road gone?

We were heading high into the mountains to spend a couple of nights at a coffee plantation. The photos above show how beautiful the mountain roads were – these photos were all taken out of a moving vehicle. Oasis had never stayed at the coffee farm before but other overland companies had and highly recommended the place. If the other companies can get their trucks to the farm, then it shouldn’t be a problem for Paul and Bob.
As soon as we turned off, the road became incredibly narrow. Now thats not a problem so long as we don’t meet anything coming the other way. And surprisingly we didn’t. The trees and branches began to curve over us scratching the roof but again that wasn’t a problem. Then suddenly the road widened and the sound of running water became louder and louder... then worryingly loud. Looking ahead, the road disappeared for a bit, replaced by a fast flowing water feature. The road had been washed away...

Paul and Danny jumped out and waded across to see how deep it was and how fast it was flowing. They then spent a lot of time moving rocks and boulders out of the way. After Paul was happy that the truck could make it across, we all had to jump down, take off our shoes, roll up our trousers and wade across. Only then did he drive the truck across. I have great video footage of this but unfortunately I don’t appear to be able to upload it.
Our troubles didn’t stop there as then the road became too steep for Bob to get up and because his tyres wee sopping wet, he couldn’t get any traction on the ground. Luckily, the road to the main house was not as steep and we drove there where the owners packed us, our luggage and all our cooking equipment into 4x4jeeps and shuttled us the rest of the way to the site where we were staying.

When we finally arrived, we knew it was worth the hassle as the place was exceptionally beautiful. Those who were interested went on a tour of the coffee plantation and coincidentally a major coffee buyer was also on the tour ad imparted a great deal of expert knowledge. There were chocolate tours for those not interested in coffee or you could simply relax and take in the wonderful views. It was James birthday whilst we were there so a big out-door party complete with BBQ was enjoyed by all. Too soon, it was time to leave but luckily the owners advised us of another route off the mountain so this time nobody got wet!
